In the last 10 years St Ives has become renowned as one of the leading food and drink destinations in Cornwall with a wide range of fantastic restaurants, cafés and bars. Whether you are looking for fine dining or fish and chips, the town offers a range and diversity of food and drink that rivals other culinary hotspots in the country. One of the key foundation stones of this success has been the quality of the food and drink producers in West Cornwall who provide many of the restaurants, cafés and bars in town with a wealth of the freshest ingredients and locally made produce.
Opened in 1996, the centre holds information on every aspect of the town by form of housing newspaper articles, maps, legal documents, correspondence, catalogues and books. It has an extensive collection of photographs which have been taken over the past one hundred and forty years, that clearly document how the area has changed over the past century. Copies of many of the images may be purchased.

Tucked away between the harbour and Porthgwidden beach is one of St Ives’ best kept secrets. It’s possible to visit the town and completely miss it if you’re not careful. The St Ives Museum has been run by an enthusiastic local volunteer force ever since the 1950s. The museum is loaded top-to-tail with important objects relating to the town’s history and its illustrious residents from a bygone era. The museum is not like a slick international museum you could see in any large town or city centre, this is different. On your visit you will see hundreds of displays and exhibits including archaeology, old photographs, clothes, household brick-a-brac, models, tools, sailing equipment and religious artefacts. The museum has been categorised into different themes that include – the Hain Steamship Company, John Knill (the large memorial at the back of Carbis Bay), Railways, Art, Lighthouses, boat Building, the Second World War, RNLI, fishing and mining.
